JOELINTON has been awarded the Player of the Year award at Newcastle United after outstanding performances across the season.

The Brazilian had previously struggled in his first two seasons on Tyneside as a number nine but under Eddie Howe, he has been reinvented as a box-to-box competitive midfielder and has become a regular in his team this season.

He has scored four goals in 35 appearances this season including a brace in the club’s recent 3-0 win over Norwich City.

Joelinton’s resurgence in the team has coincided with Newcastle’s remarkable climb away from the Premier League relegation zone as they have become one of the form sides of 2022.

The 25-year-old said: "It has been a great season for me. Many things have happened, but I'm very happy to help the team and help the team stay in the Premier League. Hopefully next season will be even better."

The Brazilian succeeds Callum Wilson in winning the award. He is expected to feature for Newcastle United this evening when they host Arsenal at St James’ Park in their penultimate game of the campaign.
