SHILDON have parted company with manager Daniel Moore in the wake of Tuesday night’s NPL East play-off semi-final defeat to Marske United.

Moore was involved in almost 500 matches during two spells with Shildon as both a manager and player.

He stepped into the dug-out in January 2017, and led the Railwaymen to three top-six finishes in the Northern League before playing a prominent role in the club’s elevation to the Northern Premier League.

Shildon’s first season at step four of the non-league pyramid, with the club securing a play-off place before suffering an extra-time defeat to Marske on Tuesday, but after discussions with the club hierarchy, it has been decided that Moore will move on, along with his assistant Mark Hudson.

Shildon chairman David Dent said: “I will never forget how Dan stepped into the job in extremely difficult circumstances. We have both grown together over the years and with the backing of the club, he has taken Shildon AFC to a level that we have never played at before, where we have surprised a few people in the NPL getting into the play-offs in our first season.

"It has become evident that Dan needs to move on, which he believes is best for him and it’s also best for the club. This is the end of an era, and we now look forward to starting a new chapter."
