SUNDERLAND defender Trai Hume hailed the reception he received from the Northern Ireland crowd as he came on for his senior debut against Hungary.

Hume, 19, came on in the 82nd minute of their 1-0 defeat at Windsor Park as Roland Sallai got the only goal of the game.

Despite just two appearances for the Black Cats this season, Hume has ticked off a dream moment in his short career to date and loved every minute of playing for his country in front of the home supporters.

“It was brilliant. I was obviously a wee bit nervous but I got good applause when I came on. I loved it” said Hume.

“I came out to see my mum and dad who were obviously very proud.

“The fans, that is the reason the stadium is so good. The fans are brilliant and we had a brilliant night again. I thought we were going to nick one at the end. You could see them pushing us but it was close.”

Hume also had a chance to score in the game but he couldn’t cap off a dream moment with his first senior goal for his country.

“I saw George (Saville) head the ball before that and I saw it come back in. I’ve just seen the ball and I thought I could win this and try to score but the keeper has made a good save.”

Hume will now return to the Sunderland squad as they prepare for their League One tie against Gillingham.
