Darlington plan to bring in reinforcements ahead of Saturday’s home game with Blyth Spartans.

A striker has verbally agreed to join on loan, with manager Alun Armstrong bringing in cover following an injury suffered by Junior Mondal that will sideline him for the next few weeks.

“I am in the middle of sorting out a loan and hopefully that will be done for the weekend,” said Quakers’ boss.

“I’m 95 per certain it will happen but nothing has been signed yet, no paperwork has been done.

“I’ve tried the North East clubs but there’s not much available, so I’ve had to go further afield.”

Asked whether the new signing will start at Blackwell Meadows on Saturday, Armstrong said: “I’ll look at him in training tonight, see where we are bodies wise and take it from there.”

Mondal limped off before half-time last Saturday against Chorley with a hamstring strain, cruel luck on the 24-year-old in his fourth appearance since returning from a loan spell with Marske United.

His return to the side had coincided with Darlington’s upturn in results, three wins and a draw stopping the rot after the team had suffered four defeats in a row.

“It’s not as bad as we first thought, but we’re still looking at three to four weeks out,” said Armstrong.

“It’s horrible for him to get injured now, he’s devastated.

“When Luke Charman left, I wasn’t too concerned about bringing someone else in as we had Junior. I’ve always thought he was a forward but he likes to play on the wing.

“He did extremely well on loan at Marske, we brought him back in and he did smashing for us, so I’m gutted for the kid.

“He’s worked his socks off, he’s been patient and never kicked up a fuss, then he gets in the team and gets injured, so it’s sod’s law.”

George Smith (hamstring), Danny Ellis (calf) and Alex Storey (ribs) remain sidelined for Darlington.

After Saturday’s game, Quakers play at York City on Tuesday.
