Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion to bring defender Dan Burn to the club.

A fee of £13m was arranged and personal terms were agreed earlier today (Monday January 31) ahead of the transfer deadline closing.

The transfer was then confirmed by Newcastle United's social media team around ten minutes before the window shut.

Burn, aged 29, spent time in Newcastle’s academy as a youngster, and has been with Brighton since joining from Wigan in the summer of 2018.

He was immediately loaned back to the Latics before making his Seagulls debut in January 2019 in the FA Cup.

Burn has gone on to make 74 Premier League appearances for Brighton to date.

What do Brighton fans say Newcastle should expect of Dan Burn?

Brighton fans were sad to see the defender leaving the club, and wished him well.

One fan posted on Twitter: "2 years ago I never thought I’d be gutted so see Dan Burn leaving our club, but I really am, he’s been so good for us, but £13m is too much to turn down for a 30 year old rotation option, thankyou so much for everything Dan, now go smash it at your boyhood club BFG".

Another wrote: "To all those who don’t rate Big Dan Burn. Have you seen any #BHAFC fans saying they are glad he’s gone? We’re the ones who watch him week in, week out.We know he’s been very good this season. Sorry to see him go."

Luke Barber was also sad to see him go, saying: "Never knew how much we’d grow to love Dan Burn. Has been amazing for us, but really wish him nothing but the best in going back to the team he supports!"

Another posted: "Gutted Big Dan Burn is leaving! Genuine player who gives 100% every game. He’s been brilliant for us this season! Wish him all the best at Newcastle."
