NEWCASTLE UNITED have agreed a £13m fee for Dan Burn - with the Brighton defender set to travel to the North-East this afternoon ahead of a medical.

Having had a previous bid rejected at the Amex Stadium, Newcastle officials retutrned to the negotiating table with an improved offer yesterday.

That £13m offer has been accepted, with Burn having been given the green light to complete the formalities of his move back to Newcastle.

The centre-half, who can also play at left-back or on the left of a back three, was on the Magpies' books as a youngster before being released at the age of 11.

He started his professional career with Darlington, with his Quakers debut coming in a 5-0 defeat at Torquay at the age of just 17.

Having established himself in Darlington's first team, he quickly began to attract interest from much higher up the football pyramid, and in April 2011, he agreed a deal to leave Quakers and join Fulham for a fee of around £350,000.

He had a spell at Wigan prior to joining Brighton in the summer of 2018, and has flourished at the Amex Stadium under Graham Potter.

His signature should be confirmed around the same time as Newcastle announce the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazilian having successfully completed a medical in his homeland yesterday.

Guimaraes is joining from Lyon for an initial fee of £35m, with a further £8m of potential add-ons agreed as part of the deal.
