MIDDLESBROUGH have recalled goalkeeper Sol Brynn from his loan spell at Queen of the South.

Brynn joined the Scottish Championship side on a season-long loan, but Boro have opted to trigger the recall clause contained within his loan agreement.

The 21-year-old, who is yet to make his senior debut for Boro and who has previously had a brief loan spell at Darlington, made 21 appearances during his loan spell north of the border.

His return suggests Boro boss Chris Wilder wants to add him to the goalkeeping ranks at Rockliffe Park for the second half of the season.

Indeed, Brynn could even be involved in the matchday squad for the FA Cup third-round tie at Mansfield at the start of next month.

Boro already have three senior goalkeepers on their books, with Luke Daniels and Dejan Stojanovic challenging current number one Joe Lumley.

Brynn's return suggests at least one of those senior goalkeepers will be leaving next month.

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston said: "Sol has been brilliant for us with some outstanding performances. He is a class goalkeeper and we are sorry to lose him.

"We are grateful to Middlesbrough for allowing the deal to happen in the first place and to Sol for his efforts.

"He has certainly become a Queens favourite and hopefully he has gained a lot from his loan spell and returns to the Riverside a better player."
