THE best known family in British ice hockey return to the ice at the Metro Radio Arena next month.

On Thursday, February 28, as part of Shaun Johnson's testimonial game, dad Peter and brothers Anthony and Stephen line-up as part of a UK All Stars team to face the Mobilx Vipers.

The Johnson's are regarded as one of the reasons for the Durham Wasps' all-conquering dynasty during the 1980's and early 1990's.

With over 3,000 league games between them, the family trophy cabinet boasts almost every honour available in the British game.

"I'm delighted and excited that my dad and Anthony and Stephen have agreed to play,"

said Shaun.

"My dad was probably the keenest from the three of them, as he still gets on the ice everyday in Hull.

"I don't think Anthony and Stephen have played since last season so I think there'll be a few heavy legs the day after the game.

"The time I spent with my dad and brothers at Durham and then in Hull was a very special period in my hockey career, so it'll be great to be together again.

"I think the first 20 minutes will be tough going for Anthony and Stephen but I think my dad will be rolling back the years and showing the younger guys how it should be done!"

Johnson senior's 24-year glittering career with the Durham Wasps brought medals aplenty.

He also had the added bonus of playing alongside two of his sons (Anthony and Stephen) to form a line that may have been unique in the ice hockey world.

"That was very special," he said, recalling the experience.

"The first time we had a goal scored by Johnson assisted by Johnson and Johnson was a very good feeling.

"But Shaun's testimonial could better that, if the old legs let me keep up with the lads, we could have four Johnson's on a line - that would be something special."

Details of players taking part will be released in the coming weeks but the first to put pen to paper is former Jesters and Riverkings ace Joel "The Goal"

Poirier.

"Thanks to his hard working style, he won many admirers during his tenure and was part of the Riverkings playoff team, who famously beat Sheffield.

"I'm delighted that Joel's agreed to play," said Johnson.

"I've had the privilege of being his team-mate at both Newcastle and Coventry and he's a true gentleman.

"It's also a bit of a home coming for Joel, as he started his British career off in Newcastle so I'm sure the fans will give him a warm welcome back to the Arena."
