How did the players fare in Newcastle's 4-0 defeat to Leicester?
LEICESTER (4-1-4-1):
Schmeichel 6; Castagne 6, Soyuncu 7, Evans 5 (Soumare 6, 6), Thomas 6; Ndidi 7; MADDISON 9 (McAteer 88), Tielemans 8, Dewsbury-Hall 6, Barnes 6 (Albrighton 70, 5); Daka 8.
Subs (not used): Ward (gk), Bertrand, Pereira, Nelson, Brunt, Vardy.
NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
5 Dubravka: Didn’t have a chance with any of Leicester’s goals but didn’t always look comfortable trying to play out from the back
4 Manquillo: Got himself into a poor position as Barnes set up Leicester’s second goal and was positionally poor
4 Schar: Couldn’t cope with the fluidity of Leicester’s attacking in the second half and was run ragged by Maddison in particular
3 Lascelles: Was lured in by Maddison as he conceded the penalty and was pulled all over the place in the closing stages
4 Lewis: Wasn’t really able to contain Maddison before he was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark with his side two goals down
5 Shelvey: Played some decent long balls in the first half, but his defensive deficiencies were all too evident after the break
4 Willock: Continues to offer alarmingly little – doesn’t look anything like the player that made such a strong impact last season
5 Almiron: His frenetic work closing down the Leicester defence was admirable, but his impact with the ball at his feet was limited
6 JOELINTON: Newcastle’s best player once again as he strained every sinew to hassle and harry Leicester’s midfielders
5 Saint-Maximin: Created some excitement with two or three excellent dribbles, but this was a day when the end product was lacking
5 Wilson: Didn’t really have a sniff of a chance in the 18-yard box as he was unable to stretch Leicester’s makeshift defence
Subs:
4 Fraser (for Almiron, 62): Didn’t offer anything that might have changed the course of the game in the final half-hour
5 Murphy (for Lewis, 62): Made a couple of decent breaks to deliver balls into the box in the closing few minutes
Ritchie (for Shelvey, 84)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Krafth, Fernandez, Hayden, Hendrick, Gayle.
Man Of The Match: JAMES MADDISON – He might have gone down easily for the penalty, but Leicester’s play-maker was at the heart of all his side’s best attacking moves.
