IT’S been a great start to management as far as Graeme Lee is concerned having won both of his games in charge of Hartlepool United but there main aim remains consolidating their position within League Two.

The newly appointed boss is well aware of the targets he’s been set this season but is taking his reign game by game with the fans set to play an important role in keeping up their strong home form.

Wednesday night’s win over Rochdale saw Pools seal the three points in dramatic style. Having come from behind to equalise, Mark Shelton popped up with an injury time winner to seal a 2-1 victory to move them within five points of the play-offs.

The win brought an end to a five match losing streak and lifted them up to 12th in the table. It was a very timely win to arrest the slump in form and get their main objective back on track.

The previous manager, Dave Challinor, and Chairman Raj Singh have maintained that the first objective is for the club need to reach the 50 point mark this season and then re-evaluate their targets after that points total has been reached.

While that points total has been directly relayed to the new manager, he’s well aware of what needs to be achieved this season.

“No one has turned round, like from the Chairman as such, and said let’s get to that” Lee said.

“Everyone’s focus, at the start of any season in any league, you are going to look for that first target and where you want to be.

“Tony Sweeney has reminded me of it a couple of times and said let’s get to that so I think that base just helps the club build where we want to go.

“Your first focus is that but I’ve come in, in a short period of time, and just focused on the game, game, game, the last two games. My focus now switches straight to Scunthorpe United.”

Pools home form has played a huge role in helping them consolidate their position in the league. They have the joint best home record in League Two with 22 of their 26 points coming at the Suit Direct Stadium this season.

The atmosphere at home this season has earned themselves a brilliant reputation but the club are currently embroiled in off the field tensions with the North West Corner fans group. The issue stems from safety concerns due to growing attendances at the Suit Direct Stadium.

Nevertheless, Lee is appreciative of the atmosphere the home crowd brought in the win over Dale on Wednesday night.

“The fans are fantastic” Lee said.

“What I need to make sure from me is to keep them on board and keep creating that atmosphere.

“If they can be backing the players and the players are giving them something to cheer about then we are all going in the same direction.”

Pools return to home soil this weekend as they face bottom of the league Scunthorpe United who recently sacked former Middlesbrough defender Neil Cox as their manager. Keith Hill is currently in charge at the Irons.
