CHRIS Wilder will cast his eye on every playing member connected with Middlesbrough squad and will consider recalling players out on loan if he feels the need to.

Wilder, 54, took his first training session yesterday and will continue to look at his squad with his first game to come in ten days time at home to Millwall.

When it comes to loanees, Boro have full-back duo Djed Spence on loan at Nottingham Forest will Hayden Coulson is currently at Ipswich Town. Reports suggest that Boro can initiate a recall clause to bring Spence back to the club in January.

“I’m manager of the football club so I’ll assess everything in the football squad” Wilder said.

“First and foremost is to assess the players, whether they are out on loan, they’re here on loan, the kids, every player that’s connected to this football club will be assessed.

“We’ll look to run things absolutely thoroughly to make sure we get it right. Whether we bring players back, whether we keep them out, we’ll try and make decisions on them.

“Obviously we’ll still be looking to January. I think the squad is a little bit unbalanced which we’ll try and balance up a little bit and try and construct a squad that’s got competition, that’s got the characteristics that I want. Physically and mentally.

“Playing a way tactically that we want to play, I want to see it and technically good footballers that can play and dominate the ball and can dominate possession and will create chances to hopefully win games of football.”

Part of the conversations to bring Wilder to the club undoubtedly have involved plans for the January transfer window.

While he holds plenty of ambition to build a team that can succeed, he admitted that the club need to be cautious and play by the rulebook.

Wilder added: “Financial fair play is huge now in the Championship. We’ve got to run a sound ship.

“There won’t be any ridiculous gambles. You’ve seen the situation that a lot of the Championship clubs are in financial difficulties, points taken off them left right and centre so Steve (Gibson) needs to do things in the right way and I’m sure all the fans will understand that.

“You don’t want to be put in a position like in the past where you have points deductions and you’re having to sell all your players and end up in League Two and there is certainly some huge football club’s that have been on that slippery slope.

“We’ll do it within reason but the owner understands that the squad needs strengthening and so does Kieran (Scott) so I’ll work closely alongside Kieran to identify players that fit the way we play from different pools.

“We’ve had great relationships with the top guns so we’ll be an attractive proposition for the best young talent to come and play in the Championship, and from other different areas that we can go and get players from.”
