UCHE Ikpeazu and Martin Payero will be assessed by Middlesbrough’s medical staff ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Luton Town after picking up knocks over the weekend.

The Ikpeazu limped off in the 41st minute of yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City and was replaced by Duncan Watmore.

The Boro boss Neil Warnock told the media after the game that the big striker felt something in the back of his leg after missing a chance in the first half. He continued on but the problem got the better of him just before the half time whistle.

Payero played the full 90 minutes but was going to be substituted in the first half.

James Lea-Siliki was stripped and ready to come on in the 20th minute but he wasn’t introduced to the field of play until the second half.

“Martin has felt something so we’ll have to see how he is today” said Warnock.

“After two or three minutes he said he’d carry on and see how it goes.

“James has done well this week in training so if needed I would have played him today and will do Tuesday as well.

“I told him that as well. He’s been a bit behind us but he’s looked sharp in training.

“We’ve not many other options. We’ve got an option with Dijksteel back, but Siliki might get a chance Tuesday.”

Boro were boosted by the returning Anfernee Dijksteel who was fit enough to make the bench at the Riverside after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Warnock added: “Dijksteel made the bench today, which was a plus. So we’ll have to see how we are tomorrow regarding Tuesday because that’s two tough games coming up now.

“I think today showed we are thin in the squad if I’m honest.

“You dread to think if we lost certain players at the moment - your Paddy McNairs and that.

“But the lads are trying their best. I can’t fault their effort. It’s just misdirected at times.”
