DARLINGTON boxer Troy Williamson spoke of his delight by winning the British Super Welterweight title 'the hard way' after a memorable night and performance in Liverpool.

Williamson, 30, made a huge statement of intent in the division last night inflicting a first defeat for Ted Cheeseman with a brutal tenth round knockout to win the belt.

It extended his unbeaten record to 18 bouts with 13 knockouts and lifted him up to 11th in the IBF rankings.

With that performance and win last night, it may not be long before talk of a potential world title eliminator may come soon as the Darlington born boxer sits amongst the very best in the world.

After the fight, Williamson said: “It feels absolutely unbelievable. I’ve grafted my b******* off for this moment now.

“I’ve come up the hard way. Selling tickets in a small show, not getting the recognition that I truly believe I deserve and I’m here now.

“I’ve stamped my authority and proved that I am a number one in this division.

“I obviously hope Ted’s alright. It’s not nice seeing anyone in that state but I think he’s took my kindness for a weakness.

“I showed him respect throughout the fight and it looked like he tried to throw it back in my face but I hope he’s alright.

“That would’ve knocked a heavyweight out, them two left hooks.

“That’s what we’ve been working on in the gym. I’ve said it before if I hit anybody on the chin or anybody on the body with ten ounce gloves then I’m going to hurt them."
