How did the players fare in Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Leeds?
NEWCASTLE (5-3-2):
7 Darlow: Was unsighted as Raphinha’s cross crept in and made crucial saves in both halves to ensure Newcastle emeged with a point
4 Manquillo: Was all at sea as a first-half wing-back as Leeds threatened to run riot, but improved marginally after the switch to a back four
5 Hayden: Didn’t look comfortable at all as part of a back five, but got much better once he was moved into midfield towards the end of the first half
5 Lascelles: Struggled initially, but kept plugging on and got a much tighter grip of Bamford in particular in the second half
4 Clark: Had a torrid first half, when he didn’t seem to know whether to stay narrow or push wide, but was another to improve after the break
4 Ritchie: Couldn’t get close to Raphinha in the first half, and would have been relieved to see the Brazilian depart in the second
6 Willock: Covered a lot of ground at both ends of the field, with his energy now a key part of Newcastle’s attacking play
7 Longstaff: Became more and more influential as the game wore on and gradually got on top of the midfield battle
6 Almiron: Dragged a first-half shot across the face of goal, but continues to find himself in too deep-lying a position to make a real impact
9 SAINT-MAXIMIN: Produced another sensational display, with his magnificent first-half goal capping an excellent attacking performance
6 Joelinton: Got himself into some decent positions in the final third, but not for the first time, but unable to apply the final finish
Subs:
6 Fraser (for Almiron, 61): Added some pace in the final half-hour, even if a number of his balls didn’t quite come off
Krafth (for Manquillo, 81)
Murphy (for Joelinton, 90)
(not used): Gillespie (gk), Schar, Fernandez, Lewis, Hendrick, Gayle.
LEEDS (4-1-4-1):
Meslier 7; Dallas 6, Ayling 4 (Shackleton 89), Cooper 6, Firpo 5; Phillips 7; RAPHINHA 9 (Summerville 67, 5), Klich 6, Rodrigo 8, James 6 (Roberts 61, 5); Bamford 6.
Subs (not used): Klaesson (gk), Cresswell, McKinstry, Greenwood, McCarron, Kenneh.
Man Of The Match: ALLAN SAINT-MAXIMIN – Goodness knows where Newcastle would be without their flamboyant Frenchman. Single-handedly ra
