HARTLEPOOL United's business in the transfer window has come to an end with the loan signing of left-sided defender Eddy Jones.

The 19-year-old has joined on loan from Stoke City until January and becomes Dave Challinor's twelfth and final recruit of the summer.

Throughout the day, the club were awaiting offers on three players. Two of them were forwards and one was a left-sided defender.

With the addition of strikers being a top priority, the club attempted to push through the deals. The Northern Echo reported earlier in the day that a deal for a left-sided defender would only happen if the club failed to sign a forward and it appears the deal for Jones has signalled the end of the clubs business.

It's understood that deals were close for strikers but failed to materialise before the close of play this evening.

Jones has previously spent time on loan at National League North side AFC Telford United and is currently on international duty with Wales Under 21's squad.

Dave Challinor said: "Eddie is a player that comes recommended to us. He provides versatility with being able to play down the left hand side at both centre back and wing back.

"He is a good friend of Will's (Goodwin) so that will help him settle in and we are excited to work with him after he returns from international duty."
