NEWCASTLE UNITED'S loan pursuit of Hamza Choudhury has hit a new snag - despite suggestions the Magpies were on the verge of completing a deal for the Leicester midfielder.

Having held a series of discussions over Choudhury over the course of the summer, Newcastle officials made fresh contact with their counterparts at the King Power Stadium this morning.

Newcastle proposed a season-long loan move for the 23-year-old, and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers had given the deal the green light.

However, it is now understood the proposed deal has run into problems, with increasingly strong suggestions that it will no longer go through.

That would mean Newcastle finishing the transfer window with Joe Willock as their only senior signing.

Newcastle have agreed a deal to add Mexican youngster Santiago Munoz to their Under-23s squad, and have turned down a loan approach from Luton Town for Elliot Anderson.
