NEIL Warnock as confirmed Sol Bamba will be joining Middlesbrough for the new season in some capacity.

Bamba has been in training with the squad over pre-season and appeared for Boro during their recent friendly win over Rotherham United.

The 36-year-old was relased by Cardiff during the summer and Neil Warnock was said to have offered a friendly hand to Bamba in order to maintain his fitness.

But after impressing with the first-team squad and with his time in the under-23's, Warnock has said Bamba will remain with the team, potentially as a player/coach.

“Absolutely because he’s such a good lad" Warnock said.

"Craig Liddle said the lads in the under-23s couldn’t believe how much talking he does.

“He does that in every training session and every game and he’s helping all the time.

“He is a credit. I’ve watched him over the last couple of years and, I’ll be honest, I didn’t think he could get himself fit enough this summer to warrant a playing contract.

“He’s proven me wrong though. He looks as fit as I’ve seen him and he has surprised me.

“But the playing contract won’t be a financial issue. It would be a small financial outlet that wouldn’t ruin us.

“The main thing is having him on board with the coaching really.”
