Middlesbrough have finally announced the signing of Banfield's Argentinian midfielder Martin Payero.

The 22-year-old's move from South America has finally been announced after his work permit was granted as he signs a three year deal on Teesside.

Payero has also been handed the number ten shirt for the new season. Here is five things worth knowing about Boro's new midfield maestro:

He made his professional debut against Boca Juniors and Carlos Tevez

Talk about a baptism of fire when it comes to Argentinian football.

A 19-year-old Payero replaced Franco Colela with nine minutes to go in the game and Banfield were trailing.

It was former Manchester United and City striker Carlos Tevez who inflicted the damage with a header just three minutes into the game.

Payero would go on to make a further three appearances for Banfield that season.

He played alongside Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez at Banfield

Payero was replaced by the 38-year-old in the second half of Banfield's 1-0 win over Club Deportivo Godoy Cruz back in May.

Gutierrez has replaced Payero on a number of occasions this season as part of his six appearances for the club. The Spider-man has plenty of experience from a long career over the years and will no doubt have passed on some valuable football and ife experience to Payero.

He scored his first professional goal in the Copa Argentina

It was the first round of the Copa Aregentina with Payero starting in the heart of Banfield's midfield.

They swept aside CD Juventud Unida with a 3-0 victory and Payero inflicted the damage with a direct free-kick for Banfield. What a beauty it was as well.

Without further adieu, this leads me onto my next thing you need to know...

Payero takes set pieces for Banfield and scored a few screamers

There's no need to explain. I'll just let this YouTube video do the talking.

Payero has been used as more of a central midfielder for Banfield

Much of the conversation from Boro fans over the course of the last few weeks is how Payero would be used in a Boro team.

With the likes of Sam Morsy, Jonny Howson, Paddy McNair and Matt Crooks in the side alongside Marcus Tavernier, who's set to play more of a central role this season, there's been plenty of discussion about where he'd slot in.

According to Transfermarkt, Payero has played the majority of game in a central midfield role but the 22-year-old has been given the license to move into the forward areas to try and make things happen.

Boro are already well stocked in the defensive midfield department so this may well be an indicator of where Payero's place in the side lies.
