MARTIN Payero is at Middlesbrough's training ground ahead of his move to the club which has now been finalised.

The 22-year-old Argentine has been with the Olympic team in Tokyo for the last few weeks but their defeat to Spain knocked them out of the competition and allowed Payero to travel to Teesside.

Payero completed a medical ahead of the Olympics and it's understood that the final details of the deal were agreed over the weekend.

The midfielder posted on his Instagram account that he was at Rockliffe Hotel, where Boro's training ground is based but the post was quickly deleted. Payero is expected to be unveiled as a Boro player shortly finally completing his move from Banfield.

The Northern Echo:

However, Payero is serving a period of self-isolation due to the fact he travelled back from Tokyo, which is due to end late this week.

Payero has been pursued for a number of weeks with Boro working at length to get the midfielder to the club, who has been touted as a player with a big future in the game.

Boro fans have shared their delight on social media over the last few weeks as the deal progressed and they'll watch Payero's progress at the club with particular interest.

Payero is set to become Boro's sixth signing of the summer with Joe Lumley, Uche Ikpeazu, Lee Peltier, Sammy Ameobi and Matt Crooks all arriving over the summer.

Meanwhile Boro are set to lose the race for Rodrigo Muniz with reports suggesting that the Flamengo striker has agreed to join fellow Championship side Fulham.
