Experienced striker Jake Cassidy has become Darlington’s tenth summer signing, completing Alun Armstrong’s lengthy search for a forward.

The manager had previously made it clear he wanted to add a forward to the ranks with a physical presence, and will hope the 28-year-old fits the bill.

“Jake has the physicality that we’ve been lacking, it’s clear that Luke Charman needs a hand up front,” said Armstrong.

“Jake likes to mix it with opposing defences, and doesn’t mind the ugly stuff.

“Wherever he’s played, he’s been a good foil – the other centre forward has always scored plenty. He’s played full time up to now, and he’s fine about going part time. I’ve been talking to him for a few weeks now.

“He watched us play against Harrogate, and said that he would love to get on the end of the crosses that were going into the box.”

Cassidy was with Wolves 2010-15, and in the six seasons since has played for seven clubs: Oldham, Guiseley, Hartlepool United, Maidstone United (loan), Maidenhead United, Stevenage and York.

Darlington play their latest pre-season friendly on Sunday at Blackwell Meadows against Middlesbrough under-23s (1pm).

Quakers’ other nine signings this summer: Kallum Griffiths, George Smith, Joey Hope, Junior Mondal, Tommy Taylor, Lexus Beeden, Lucas Martin, Alex Purver, Kevin Dos Santos
