NEW Middlesbrough recruit Lee Peltier achieved promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City back in 2018 under the tenureship of Neil Warnock.

After reuniting with his former manager, Peltier is hopeful of emulating that success with Boro

The 34-year-old signed on a permanent deal last Friday after being released by West Bromwich Albion following their relegation to the Championship.

While Peltier played a big role in the Bluebirds promotion two years ago, he was also signed by Warnock in 2012 when the Boro boss was in charge of Leeds United.

Now that the two will be together at their third club, Peltier can't wait to hit the ground running.

He told the club website: "It feels great. It happened pretty quickly but I’m happy it’s all sorted and I’ve got myself down here to get myself ready for pre-season. I’m looking forward to the new challenge.

"I’ve worked with him a few times before and once he called me and said to me he was interested in me coming down, I knew I would come and play for him. He’s a great manager. We’ve had a lot of success together and hopefully we can have some more.

"I’ve been around a long time now and had plenty of experience so hopefully I can bring something to the team and add a little bit more to what they’ve already got and hopefully that can help them."

The Boro squad are back at Rockliffe for pre-season training and Peltier linked up with his new teammates alongside summer signings Joe Lumley, Sammy Ameobi and Uche Ikpeazu.

The defender has been a part of Neil Warnock's pre-season campaigns in the past and he understands the importance of a good summer

"It’s a long season. You’ve got your Saturday/Tuesday games coming. Looking forward to just getting back into the routine really and getting going again.

"Pre-season is massive and I know the gaffer believes in it massively. He has a lot of involvement in it himself.

"The trip to Cornwall, I’ve been on a couple of them already and it’s good to get down there and get away. Have a little bit of down time as well as playing a lot of games.

"The pre-season is going to be massive to have a good start in the Championship and I know the most successful teams start really well.

"Hopefully we can get fans back into the stadiums. The past eighteen months have been rubbish really without us having any fans.

"I know we had some at the back end of last season which was great. It felt like it was your first game again because there was fans shouting about but as I say it will be great if we can get fans back into the stadium to push the lads on."
