Sunderland and Hartlepool have been placed in their respective Northern Groups for the Papa John's Trophy.
The Black Cats have been placed in Group F where they will play League Two Bradford City and League One Lincoln City, who they beat in the semi finals on penalties at the Stadium of Light last season.
Pools are in Group A where they'll have to face Carlisle United and Morecambe, who have recently been promoted to League One.
Both groups will await draws for the invited Premier League Under 21 sides which takes place tomorrow afternoon. 16 teams have been invited by the EFL and they will also be drawn based on geographical location.
The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup also takes place tomorrow afternoon.
Middlesbrough are in the hat for the draw and they are number 19, Sunderland will be ball number 33 while Hartlepool United are ball number 14.
Along with that, the EFL will release the fixtures for Championship, League One and League Two tomorrow morning at 9am.
