Middlesbrough, Sunderland and recently promoted Hartlepool United are eagerly anticipating news of their league and cup fixtures for next season this Thursday. 

After Pools promotion on Sunday, the EFL, from Championship to League Two, finally took shape with teams just over six weeks away from the start of the campaign. 

Not only will our local teams find out when they'll face their fellow league opponents, they'll also discover who they'll face in the EFL's cup competitions. 

The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup and the Papa John's Trophy takes place, with Sunderland looking to defend their title next season. Newcastle's Under 21's will also be involved in the draw.

League Fixtures

Scheduled to be released on Thursday 24th June at 9am for the Championship, League One and League Two. Some dates may change on the opening day of the season to accommodate TV coverage. 

The fixture release will include Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Hartlepool United.

Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup round one draw will take place live on Sky Sports or on the EFL's Twitter channels at 3:40pm on Thursday 24th June.

A total of 35 fixtures will be drawn for round one, which includes newly promoted Hartlepool United and EFL Cup debutants Sutton United. Middlesbrough and Sunderland will also be in the draw. 

Sheffield United will be included, while recently relegated West Bromwich Albion and Fulham join the competition in round two alongside the Premier League Clubs that are not competing in Europe.

The round one draw will see teams drawn in northern and southern sections, with matches scheduled to take place week commencing 9th August. 

Clubs are able to mutually agree an alternative date between 31th July and 4th August.

Papa John's Trophy

The Papa John’s Trophy round one draw will take place live on Sky Sports at 4:30pm on Thursday 24 June as Sunderland look to defend their title. This competition excludes Middlesbrough.

The EFL have invited sixteen Premier League U21 teams which will be placed into their respective Northern and Southern section Groups, with the 48 EFL Clubs placed into pre-determined groups prior to the draw.

The invited Premier League teams are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United, Leiester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Wolves. 

All EFL Clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the group stages.
