CALLUM WILSON and Allan Saint-Maximin are both available for Newcastle’s United’s home game with West Ham United tomorrow, although Steve Bruce remains cautious of naming either player in the starting line-up.

The attacking duo made a major impact after leaving the bench in last weekend’s win at Burnley, with Saint-Maximin setting up Jacob Murphy’s equaliser before scoring a superb solo goal that saw him dribble from the halfway line before drilling a low strike past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

The Frenchman has now made two substitute appearances since recovering from the calf injury that saw him hobble out of February’s draw with Wolves, while Wilson was making his first outing since damaging his hamstring more than two months ago when he came on for the final half-hour at Turf Moor.

The pair have showed no ill effects from their exertions against Burnley, and have taken part in full training this week, but despite the importance of tomorrow’s meeting with the Hammers, Bruce remains reluctant to ask too much of them.

“The big news is that the two up top are okay,” said the Newcastle boss. “Obviously, the clamour is to start the pair of them, but we’ve got to look at the situation and manage it because they’ve both been out for a long time with muscle injuries.

“We have to guard against it (a recurrence) because they both rely so much on their pace and their power. They’re both available, so that’s good news for everybody concerned.”

While Wilson and Saint-Maximin will be in the squad for tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off, Ryan Fraser remains sidelined with a groin injury. The winger has suffered a series of injury issues since joining from Bournemouth last summer, with Bruce sharing his frustration at his lack of involvement.

“Ryan is not fit unfortunately,” he said. “He’s got a groin problem, which unfortunately he picked up when he was away with Scotland. It’s been a frustrating time for Ryan. We’ve never really got him up to speed.

“It’s been stop-start, and when you join a new club, with all the restrictions that we had at the start, it’s been a frustrating time for Ryan and a frustrating time for us all. We’ve never really seen the best of him in my opinion, with the problems he’s had.”
