MIDDLESBROUGH have completed the signing of Darnell Fisher from Preston.

Fisher has signed a two-and-a-half year deal on Teesside after moving for an undisclosed fee, which is understood to be around £300,000.

Having started his professional career at Celtic, Fisher had spells with St Johnstone and Rotherham United before joining Preston in 2017.

He has made more than 100 senior appearances at Deepdale, and will compete with Anfernee Dijksteel and Djed Spence for a place in the Boro side.

At this stage, it is known whether Fisher's transfer went through in time for him to be involved in the squad for tomorrow's game at Norwich City.

Speaking at his press conference earlier today, Boro boss Neil Warnock said: "He’s a good lad. Sometimes, I think you can be at a club for too long, so I think he needs a new challenge.

"He’s played at our level for three-and-a-half years with Preston, and has always been reliable. I think sometimes, you need a change when you’ve been somewhere for three-and-a-half years.

"I think he’ll enjoy the banter that we’ve got here, and I think he’ll fit in. He just seems that type of lad, when I’ve made my inquiries about him."
