CALLUM WILSON will be available for Newcastle United’s trip to Crystal Palace tomorrow night – but Steve Bruce will be without three unnamed players who are currently self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.

Newcastle’s players are currently having weekly tests for coronavirus, and the latest batch of results has resulted in a trio of players having to drop out of the first-team group.

Bruce did not want to breach medical confidentiality by naming them at this morning’s press conference, but it is understood that at least one would have figured in the starting line-up at Selhurst Park tomorrow night had they been available.

Bruce said: “We’ve got one or two niggles and one or two problems with Covid. Covid is one problem we have to manage. I don’t want to go into individuals, we have to respect that, and we’ve got one or two niggles. Everybody is finding it difficult but we’re in a decent place.

“We have to manage the situation. We have got two or three individuals in the training ground at the moment that are self-isolating. That is difficult to manage, and we’ve got one or two injuries, but we’re getting a few back and we’re not as bad as some.”

Wilson has trained fully in the last few days, and having missed last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea as a result of the hamstring problem he sustained at Southampton, Newcastle’s leading goalscorer should be back in the starting side tomorrow.

Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie have also returned to training this week and will hope to be in contention for a place in the squad, but Dwight Gayle is expected to miss out again.

Bruce said: “As we speak, Callum will be fit. He’s trained all week. We didn’t think we could risk him (against Chelsea), but he’ll be available, which we’re delighted about. He’s already made a difference. He’s got six goals in eight games in the Premier League.”
