How did the players fare in Newcastle's Carabao Cup win over Newport?

NEWPORT (4-4-2):

Townsend 6; Haynes 6, Cooper 8, Bennett 8 (Willmott 80), Demetriou 8; Shephard 7, Dolan 6, Sheehan 6, TWINE 8 (Collins 90); Amond 7 (Taylor 80), Abrahams 7.

Subs (not used): King (gk), Baker, Janneh, Ellison.

NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):

4 Gillespie: Made a crucial shoot-out save from Taylor, but was badly at fault as he let Abrahams’ shot squeeze past him

4 Manquillo: Wasted a series of good crossing positions down the right by repeatedly over-hitting his balls in the middle

4 Krafth: His failure to deal with a rebound off the crossbar contributed to Newport’s goal and he failed to convince before being take off

6 Fernandez: Delivered a couple of dangerous long balls over the top, but also wasted possession on occasion

5 Lewis: Showed plenty of energy getting up and down the left, although his final ball often left a lot to be desired

6 Shelvey: Looked badly out of sorts for most of the night, but made amends with a superb equaliser into the top corner

4 S Longstaff: His sudden-death success from the spot couldn’t really make up for an error-strewn display over 90 minutes

7 MURPHY: The pick of Newcastle’s players for the second cup game in a row as he cut in dangerously from the right

4 Almiron: Was strangely subdued throughout the first half and wasted a good chance by shooting straight at the keeper at the start of the second

4 Fraser: Gave the ball away time and time again, and wasn’t able to trouble the Newport keeper when he advanced into the box

4 Carroll: Lacked quality service, but it is still extremely alarming that he was unable to cause any problems to a League Two defence

5 Joelinton (for Carroll, 62): Helped change the course of things late on, although his penalty miss could easily have proved costly

6 Wilson (for Almiron, 62): Created a couple of dangerous late chances and got the shoot-out off to a good start

Schar (for Krafth, 71)

(not used): Darlow (gk), Anderson, Hayden, Hendrick.

Man Of The Match: SCOTT TWINE – The Newport midfielder set up his side’s goal with an excellent long-range effort and caused problems for the Newcastle defence all night
