How did the players fare in Newcastle's seven-goal thrashing of Morecambe?

MORECAMBE (4-2-3-1):

Halstead 2; Mellor 3, Lavelle 3, Davis 3, Hendrie 3; Wildig 4, Diagouraga 3; O’SULLIVAN 5, Gomes 4 (Phillips 35, 4), Slew 3 (Cooney 70); Stockton 3 (McAlinden 57, 3).

Subs (not used): Mendes (gk), Knight-Percival, Kenyon, Pringle.

NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):

6 Gillespie: Will not have an easier night in his entire professional career – did not have to make a single save all night

7 Krafth: Attacked effectively down the right in the first half, and slotted in at centre-half without fuss in the second

7 Lascelles: Was completely untroubled in a defensive capacity and scored with a thumping second-half header

6 Clark: Barely touched the ball in the first half, such was Morecambe’s complete lack of threat, and was replaced at half-time

7 Yedlin: Had the run of the right-hand side as he pushed forward to contribute to his side’s attacks

8 Hayden: Outclassed his opponents at the heart of midfield and scored with a long-range strike in the first half

7 S Longstaff: Produced some neat passes from the heart of midfield and was thankfully unharmed by Diagouraga’s bad challenge

9 MURPHY: Set up Almiron’s goal with an excellent ball through the middle and cracked home a goal of his own from long range

8 Almiron: Set up Joelinton’s opener and scored with a neat finish after rounding the Morecambe goalkeeper

7 Ritchie: Caused problems with his set-pieces and forced Lavelle into the own goal that completed Newcastle’s rout

8 Joelinton: Had one of his best nights in a Newcastle shirt as he scored two goals and could easily have had a hat-trick

Subs:

7 Fraser (for Clark, 46): Provided plenty of energy in the second half and was unfortunate not to score as he hit the bar late on

6 Carroll (for Almiron, 61): Will feel he should have scored with a late close-range header that flashed wide

6 Barlaser (for Hayden, 61): Was neat and tidy as he patrolled midfield in the closing stages

(not used): Darlow (gk), Shelvey, Hendrick, Wilson.

Man Of The Match: JACOB MURPHY – Steve Bruce revealed after the game that he wants to keep the winger – after this kind of performance, it is easy to see why.
