HARROGATE missed out on a chance to close the gap to National League leaders Barrow when Bromley came from behind to draw 1-1 with Town for the second time this season.

Former Sunderland striker Jon Stead headed Ryan Fallowfield's cross against the woodwork, while a flowing Bromley counter ended with Adam Mekki shooting over the crossbar and out of the ground.

Josh Falkingham was also denied by the bar with the last kick of a goalless first half, a superb 25-yard blast, but the breakthrough came just two minutes after the interval when Jack Muldoon's cross found its way to Jack Diamond who swept home.

They looked on course to see the game out but Bromley equalised with five minutes remaining when Luke Coulson's corner was sliced into his own goal by Harrogate substitute Alex Bradley.

The two dropped points leave second-placed Harrogate four behind leaders Barrow, who lost at home to Notts County, while Bromley are three points outside the play-offs in 12th.

Harrogate: Belshaw; Smith, Kougun, Thomson, Falkingham, Fallowfield, Burrell, Kerry (Bradley 78), Stead, Muldoon, Diamond. Subs (not used): Smith, Cracknell, Kiernan, Harratt.

MICKY Cummins said the message at half-time in York City's 3-1 win at Alfreton Town was to "go for more".

Thanks to a Sean Newton free kick and a composed Alex Kempster finish, leaders York were cruising in the National League North contest inside quarter of an hour.

Alfreton fought their way back into the contest but, though they made York's chances slimmer of scoring another in the first half after the visitors' opening salvo, they looked unlikely in front of goal.

Town had better chances after the restart but York put the game out of reach with another Newton free-kick ten minutes from time. The only downside from a York perspective was Danny Clarke's consolation two minutes from the end.

Asked whether the instructions at half-time were to tighten up or look to score more, the assistant manager said: "We want to rack the goals up and we knew we were going to get opportunities in and around the final third. We had a couple of corner kicks and the keeper's saved one off Newts.

"They were always going to have a spell. I thought we managed the game well and made the subs at the right time.”

York City: Jameson, Tait, McNulty, Newton, Griffiths, Ferguson, Buxton, Green, Kempster (Jones 81), Maguire (Moke 64), Burrow. Subs (not used): Bond, McLaughlin, Langstaff.

Gateshead’s 11-game unbeaten run came to an end with a narrow defeat against Kings Lynn, who kept up the heat on York at the top of National League North.

After a dominant away first-half performance, capitalised with a Simon Power goal, the Heed turned up the pressure after the restart. JJ O’Donnell grabbed his tenth goal in his 100th game for Gateshead from a Greg Olley corner.

But Ian Culverhouse’s side counter-attacked late on and as Power waltzed through on goal and slotted the ball past stand-in keeper Sam Guthrie to hand King’s Lynn all three points.

After a nervy start, Dom Tear’s pass to Alex Nicholson fell short, allowing winger Power to glide through and roll the ball past league debutant Guthrie for the opener.

But from an Olley corner he found the head of O’Donnell, who blasted the ball into the back of the net, to bring Gateshead back level in the second half.

But then Kings Lynn, knowing York are within touching distance, turned up the heat again and after Power had hit a low-driven effort from 20 yards that was saved he made the most of another chance late on.

Gateshead: Guthrie; Nicholson, Williamson, Cooper; Tear, Deverdics, Oliver (Keating 71), Agnew (Hindle 82), O’Donnell; Olley; Preston. Subs (not used): Lees, Pattison.
