FOOTBALL League hopefuls Harrogate continued to show their promotion credentials with a 3-0 win over Eastleigh.

Josh Falkingham started the scoring and Town remained in control, with Jack Diamond and Jack Muldoon adding further strikes as Simon Weaver's men took a firm grip on second place.

Falkingham's opener set the tone, firing in tidily from just inside the area in the 20th minute.

Diamond's second from outside the box, two minutes before the break, gave Town the control they needed and Muldoon rounded things off with a left-footed finish in the 68th minute.

Harrogate are five points adrift of leaders Barrow but have nailed down second spot having extended the gap over third placed Boreham Wood to seven points.

Harrogate: Belshaw; Hall, Smith, Thomson (Bradley 84), Fallowfield, Falkingham, Burrell, Kerry, Diamond (Kiernan 75), Muldoon (Harratt 82), Stead. Subs (not used): Smith, Cracknell.

YORK City's 1-0 win at Kidderminster Harriers may have put pressure on King's Lynn Town by knocking them down to second - but manager Steve Watson insists he is keeping his mind solely on the Minstermen.

Dan Maguire struck very early in the second half to secure a vital three points for York and send them two points clear at the top, having played three games more than King's Lynn.

And Watson - who was part of the Newcastle United team that eventually finished Premier League runners-up in 1996/97 - was drawn to acknowledge parallels between the Magpies' situation and that of the Linnets, admitting that title-chasers regularly winning does add pressure to the leaders. He was quick to reassert his position on mind-games.

He told the York Press: "I've been there, I've got one of the worst hard-luck stories in history, 12 points clear in January with Newcastle.

"I know what it's like to be top of the league and what it's like to look over your shoulder and see teams winning and winning.

"It does add a little bit of pressure but as I've said before, I'm not one to try and play mind-games.

"We focus on ourselves, win as many games as we can and see where that takes us."

York City: Jameson, Bond, Tait, McNulty, Newton, Ferguson, Moke, McLaughlin (Griffiths 40), Green, Maguire (Burrow 62), Willoughby (Kempster 79): Subs (not used): King, York.

GATESHEAD scored two goals in the final five minutes to earn a 2-2 draw at Guiseley.

The Heed sparked a late comeback at Nethermoor to stretch the unbeaten run to ten games.

Guiseley started the stronger and went ahead through Andrai Jones five minutes in, before Aaron Martin made it two with a rebound midway through the half.

But Gateshead found a way back in the closing stages. Greg Olley made the second-half pressure count with five minutes to go as he converted at the back post, before Jake Cooper equalised at the death to earn a point and keep the unbeaten run alive.

Cooper rose to head home Preston’s cross at the back post and earn what could be a crucial point in the play-off race.

Gateshead boss Mike Williamson said: “Two down away, difficult conditions, we are pleased, but when we reflect we have had two lapses in concentration that cost us.

“We pushed for a winner in the end and played some good football. Half a dozen of us were sloppy on the ball but we showed character and that will take us a long way.”

Gateshead: James; A Nicholson, Cooper, Williamson; Tear, Agnew (Pattison 67), Deverdics, O’Donnell; Olley, Preston, Keating (Curry 16). Subs (not used): Cranston, Guthrie, Oliver.
