How did the players fare in Sunderland's 1-0 win at Tranmere?
TRANMERE (3-4-3):
Davies 6; WOODS 6, Monthe 5, Ridehalgh 5 (Mullin 67, 4); Caprice 4, Morris 4, Jennings 4, Wilson 6; Perkins 5 (Gilmour 81), Ferrier 6 (Payne 77), Woodyard 4.
Subs (not used): Pilling (gk), Nelson, Potter, Spellman.
SUNDERLAND (3-4-2-1):
6 J McLaughlin: Made a good first-half save from Wilson’s free-kick but wasn’t seriously extended after that
8 WILLIS: Was rock solid throughout and stood up well to the physical threat posed by the muscular Ferrier
7 Wright: Produced an accomplished debut at the heart of Sunderland’s back three, although perhaps should have done better with an early chance
7 Lynch: Dealt with everything that was thrown at him on the left of the back three, proving especially effective in the air
6 O’Nien: It wasn’t a night to showcase his passing, but he dug in when required and made some important tackles
7 Power: Will have enjoyed his return to Prenton Park – covered an awful lot of ground to help protect those behind him
6 Dobson: Had to sit deep for most of the evening, but tried to keep the ball moving even though the pitch made it difficult
6 Hume: Spent most of his time defending rather than getting forward, but contributed to a strong defensive showing
6 Gooch: Had to work hard to make an impact, but grew in influence in the second half as he got into the box more
6 Maguire: Didn’t have much of a sight of goal, but set up Wyke’s winner with a well-judged free-kick from the flank
7 Wyke: Made the difference as he got in front of his marker to convert Maguire’s free-kick with a neat close-range header
Subs:
Scowen (for Maguire, 89)
(not used): Burge (gk), C McLaughlin, Flanagan, Leadbitter, McNulty, Lafferty.
Man Of The Match: JORDAN WILLIS – The Sunderland defender marked the physical Morgan Ferrier out of the game as the Black Cats claimed their fourth clean sheet in a row.
