DAVID LILLEY delivered a damning verdict of his performances at the snooker table this season after suffering first-round heartbreak at the 19.com Scottish Open.

The world No.118 went down to a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Wales’ Kishan Hirani, gaining a foothold in the match after racing to a 2-0 lead but crumbling in the latter stages.

It’s been a tough season for Lilley, who has progressed past the first round of a ranking event on just a solitary occasion, a memorable triumph against recent Betway UK Championship winner Ding Junhui at last month’s 19.com Northern Ireland Open.

But the Newcastle potter had removed that former glory far from his memory, and was etched with despondence after surrendering his early advantage in Glasgow.

“It’s too early to say what went wrong out there – I’ll go back and watch the match back and then be able to give my thoughts on my performance,” the 44-year-old said.

“I’ve not done anything well this season – I’ve barely won a game, I think it’s something like I’ve won one game in eight events, which is a pretty horrific record.

“I can’t give any insight at the moment – I’ve just come off the table about 30 seconds ago and I don’t want to say anything I regret.

“All I would say is that I’m going to go back to the table and try to work as hard as I can.”

Lilley’s brief run across the Irish Sea was ended in the second round by Ben Woollaston, before he then crashed out of the Betway UK Championship at the first hurdle after a 6-2 defeat to world No.14 Jack Lisowski.

But the 2016 Indian Open quarter-finalist was unable to bounce back at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, failing to emulate his 2018 success where he reached the last 32.

And looking ahead, he’s acutely aware of just how much he needs to improve.

“I can improve on everything – it’s absolutely not a case of not practicing enough but I’m just not finding form and I’m not playing well enough," he added.

“I’ve got no idea where I go from here – I can’t give you any insight into any expectations or targets whatsoever.

“In 2020 I just want to try and win a match if I can.”
