DIMI Konstantopoulos has signed non-contract forms with Hartlepool United – and made his return for the club last night.

The giant Greek keeper played in the club’s Durham Challenge Cup 3-0 win over Tow Law at Victoria Park.

Released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, Konstantopoulos has long been training with Pools to keep fit and be available for any deal. He was expected to move to the Middle East and play his football in Dubai, with a short-term deal on the cards.

However, he has remained with Pools and played in last night’s comfortable win.

Craig Hignett, the former Pools boss, did try and sign Konstantopoulos earlier in the season, but could not agree personal terms with the free agent, who wanted to keep his options open.

Playing last night was his first competitive action since Boro were beaten at Newport in the FA Cup last season.

Pools’ No 1 Ben Killip has trained regularly with Konstantopoulos this season and his performances have improved. He made a superb triple save in Sunday’s 2-2 FA Cup draw at Exeter – the heroics coming when Pools trailed 2-0 and they reduced the gap minutes later.

Niko Muir scored twice against the Lawyers, with Jason Kennedy also on target.

Ticket prices for next Tuesday’s FA Cup replay with Exeter at Victoria Park have been reduced to £15 and £10 concessions.

Pools: Konstantopoulos, Shepherd, Thompson, Cunningham, Crichlow-Noble, Webster, Kennedy, Holohan (Campbell 75), Kabamba (Leonard 75), Muir, Grey. Subs (not used): Lowerson, Willoughby, Pilling.
