Goals:
0-1: Thomas pen (28, Raynes fouled in the area, and penalty was confidently rolled in)
0-2: Tshimanga (50, pass played through the defence, and angled finish went across Killip)
1-2: Featherstone (70, fed by Donaldson 25 yards out and low drive found the bottom corner)
2-2: Toure pen (86, Kitching tripped up and top scorer cracked in from 12 yards)
Bookings: Smith (foul 31), Featherstone (foul 34); Thomas (foul 35), Kioso (78, foul); Ashmore (83, dissent)
Referee: Karl Evans (Manchester): Two penalty calls probably right and can’t be criticised for not giving Pools a goal when Kabamaba’s finish was cleared on / behind the line 6
Entertainment: 3/5
Attendance: 3377
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (3-5-2):
6 Killip: Made a fine one-handed stop from a close-range deflection to keep Pools in the game when they were chasing it later on;
7 Kioso: Despite being in a back three, it didn’t stop him from piling ahead on the right side in the first-half. Fully committed as ever
5 Raynes: Gave away first-half penalty and didn’t look his normal assured self all afternoon before he was replaced feeling an injury, which won’t keep him out on Tuesday
6 Kerr: Poor first-half when he struggled on the left-side of defence, but looked more settled later on and comfortable enough to use the ball well at the back;
5 Donaldson: Struggled in the first-half formation, didn’t seem to understand his role and he’s played on the right side plenty of times before. Rolled possession to Featherstone for the first goal
5 Mafuta: Not his most influential game, in a midfield which was second best to the visitors three. Replaced as Pools looked for more attacking options in there
7 Featherstone: Brought Pools into the game with his fine left-footed strike and that was the game’s turning point. Could have been sent-off in the first-half, but referee settled for a yellow card
5 Holohan: Played well and scored goals of late, but didn’t appear to have confidence in front of goal when presented with a good one-on-one opening
6 Kitching: Always an outlet on the left flank and getting forward has become a key component of his game this season;
5 Kabamba: Should really have scored in the first-half, but the ball was somehow knocked away by the keeper from close range and the goal wasn’t given
6 James: Up against a man mountain in Stephens and his running and movement meant he popped up in all areas of the pitch throughout the 90 minutes.
Subs:
Toure (for Mafuta 59): His arrival was key to putting the frighteners on the opposition as he took the game to them
Cunningham (for Raynes 59): Wanted to play from the back and was assured on the ball when he had it
Hawkes (for Holohan 67): Brought on to offer more mobility and forward-thinking passing as Pools looked to get back into the game.
(not used): Muir, Kennedy.
BOREHAM WOOD (3-5-2): Ashmore 5; Champion 6, Stephens 6, Ilesanmi 6; Smith 6, Ricketts 6, Murtagh 5, Shaibu 7 (Shakes 87), Thomas 7; Marsh 6, Tshimanga 7. Subs (not used): Woodards, Mingoia, Fyfield, Thompson.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Nicky Featherstone – as far as turning points go, his goal changed the game around.
