HARROGATE closed the gap to the play-offs to a point by beating in-form Yeovil.

Town extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-1 National League victory at Huish Park.

In a tight first period, the Glovers came close to finding the opening goal.

Goalkeeper James Belshaw's crucial glove on Courtney Duffus' effort was enough to enable Connor Hall to clear off his line.

Simon Weaver's men capitalised on their luck in the second half and Brendan Kiernan steered in the opener from an acute angle on the left of the 12-yard box.

Within minutes a second sucker punch followed as Mark Beck pinched possession and teed up strike partner Jack Muldoon to place home.

Rhys Murphy pulled one back late on for Yeovil but it was not enough.

Harrogate: Belshaw; Burrell, Smith, Falkingham, Smith, Fallowfield, Kiernan (Emmett 90), Back, Muldoon (Stead 81), Diamond (Thomson 85). Subs (not used): Cracknell, Bradley.

ASSISTANT boss Micky Cummins is looking at York City's 1-1 draw at AFC Telford United as a point gained rather than two lost.

With the National League North's second and third-placed sides Chester and King's Lynn Town playing each other, the Minstermen had the chance to extend their lead at the summit with a win.

However, undefeated York were somewhat flat going forward - barring a few sweet moves - while David Ferguson and goalscorer Jordan Burrow also missed good chances.

At the other end, despite looking near-impenetrable throughout the first half, the defence was caught out more often in the second - highlighted by the headed equaliser, scored by the diminutive James McQuilkin. Cummins, though, is looking on the bright side.

"On reflection, I think it was fair," he said. "Telford haven't played for a couple of weeks and brought four in so we struggled to work out their formation.

"They matched us and nullified our threat. A couple of lads had off-days, and carrying that has a knock-on effect. With the performance, we'll take the draw.”

York City: Jameson, Dyer, Tait, McNulty, Newton, Ferguson, Moke (Green 75’), Bond (McFarlane 84’), McLaughlin (Durrell 66), Kempster, Burrow. Subs (not used): Whitley, Spratt

IMPRESSIVE Josh Kayode struck the only goal of the game to help Gateshead to a fifth straight home win and clean sheet to beat Gloucester City 1-0 at the International Stadium.

Gloucester were lively enough in the opening stages but the Heed were the team who struck first in the 17th minute through Kayode and that was how it stayed despite a few chances at both ends.

Gateshead should have made the result more comfortable but Kayode’s strike proved the difference on an afternoon when Gloucester failed to record a shot on target.

Mike Williamson, the hosts’ manager, kept the team the same and was rewarded with a third win on the bounce.

And Gateshead took the lead when Nicholson picked out Kayode with a cross from the right, with the Rotherham loanee setting himself before firing low into the bottom corner. That was how it stayed.

GATESHEAD: James; Nicholson, Lees, Williamson, Barrow; Deverdics, Agnew; Tear, Olley, O’Donnell; Kayode (Preston 67). Subs (not used): Guthrie, Nelson, Oliver, Blackett.
