HARROGATE’s inconsistent start to the season continued with a 2-0 defeat to well-fancied Dover Athletic.

Inih Effiong scored both goals as Dover made it four wins from four on the road this season.

Harrogate's Jack Muldoon drew an early save from Lee Worgan with a half-volley before forcing the goalkeeper to tip over his crossbar from the edge of the box in the 21st minute.

The visitors had to be patient but eventually made the breakthrough when Effiong, who had hit the outside of the post with an earlier effort, got on the end of a Michael Woods cross to head home.

And Effiong made sure of the three points in North Yorkshire as he found the net with a curling strike a minute from time.

YORK City manager Steve Watson has hailed his side's resilience following their 3-2 win at Gloucester City.

This was the National League North leaders’ fourth win in as many away games this season - on each occasion, scoring three or more goals.

Alex Kempster scored twice early in each half and Jordan Burrow added a header just before the break.

But the Minstermen did not have it all their own way. Quickfire goals from Joe Hanks and Jake Parker had City 2-1 down - before Burrow's equaliser - and City hearts were in mouths in the dying minutes as the Tigers threatened a late equaliser.

Watson said: "They're a great group of lads, but they're not all machines. When you go a goal down, it's difficult sometimes to be as confident as you should be. But what they are when they're not confident is they're resilient, and they've proved it again today. They're a genuine group of lads.”

YORK CITY : Jameson, Griffiths, King, Newton, Tait, Ferguson, Moke, Bond, Green, Kempster, Burrow. Subs (not used): Whitley, Dyer, Spratt, York, Langstaff.

GOALS from Michael Nelson and Joshua Kayode ensured Gateshead secured their first home win of the season by finishing 2-0 up against Brackley Town.

The Heed took the lead after nine minutes when former Hartlepool defender Nelson headed into the bottom corner for his first Gateshead goal.

Kayode doubled the lead from close range after a bit of Brackley pressure early in the second period to secure a first win of the season at the International Stadium.

Gateshead boss Mike Williamson looked on as Greg Olley and Nicky Deverdics both sent efforts just clear of goal as they went in search of a third.

GATESHEAD: James; Nicholson, Lees, Nelson, Barrow; Oliver (Forbes), Agnew; Olley, Deverdics, O’Donnell (Tear 87); Kayode (Blackett 90). Subs (not used): Guthrie, Greenfield.
