Cameron Bancroft has made a steady start to his Durham career against Sussex at lunch on day one of the Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash at Emirates Riverside.
The home side were inserted after an uncontested toss. Cameron Steel got off the mark from the first ball of the day, nudging an Ollie Robinson delivery to third man. However, Robinson would account for his wicket removing the opener's off stump, making only three runs in his first knock of the season.
Bancroft made his way to the crease with the applause of the Durham fans, joining Alex Lees in the middle. The impressive Mir Hamza was to peg back the hosts further when he bowled Lees for a score of 12, leaving Durham exposed at 17-2. However, the skipper and Gareth Harte stabilised the innings to guide the home side to lunch without any further damage.
