HARTLEPOOL are still waiting for international clearance before handing former Hull City midfielder Gavin Holohan his debut.

Holohan, 27, has been handed a short-term deal until the end of the season after impressing Pools boss Craig Hignett in training.

The Irishman Holohan started his career at Kilkenny before heading to Hull in 2008. He spent four years there and captained the Tigers' youth team.

After his release by Hull he dropped down to join Alfreton Town before heading back to Ireland to play for Drogheda United in 2013.

He scored goals regularly from midfield for United and then moved to Cork City. After two years in Cork he has had further spells with Galway United and Waterford but wanted a crack at the English game again.

Holohan will wear No 14 but he requires international clearance so will not be involved against Sutton United today.
