ELIAS SORENSEN is hoping to follow in Newcastle United team-mate Sean Longstaff’s footsteps after joining League One side Blackpool on loan.

Sorensen has moved to Bloomfield Road until the end of the season after making a major impact at Under-23 level in the first half of the campaign,

The 19-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Danish club HB Koge in August 2016, has scored 19 goals for the Magpies’ development side this season, and was part of the Under-21 line-up that reached the last 16 of the Checkatrade Trophy.

He scored on his debut for Denmark Under-21s earlier this month, and joins a Blackpool side that are currently sitting in eighth position in League One.

Last season, Longstaff enjoyed a successful stint with the Seasiders, scoring nine goals in 45 games, and the loan move helped thrust him into Rafael Benitez’s first-team plans on Tyneside.

Longstaff has started Newcastle’s last four senior games, and Sorensen is hoping the next four months will help him make successful progress in his own career.

“You see Sean getting a few games in the Premier League now, and he went away to Blackpool and Kilmarnock, so a few loan spells for him worked very well,” said the teenager striker.

“I spoke to him about it, and he liked it when he was here (at Blackpool). I thought it would be a great opportunity for me as well.

“I’m excited to see what it brings. Hopefully, I can get a few games in League One and show what I’m capable of.”
