Lumley 6; Furlong 7, Leistner 7, Lynch 6 (Scowan 52, 6), Bidwell 7; Wszolek 7, Luongo 7, Cousins 7, Freeman 6; Eze 7 (Smith 88); WELLS 8 (Oteh 90)

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-3-2-1):

5 Randolph: Was well beaten for the second goal and was left with little chance for the QPR opener

5 Shotton: Played his part in the Boro equaliser with his cross, but otherwise struggled in the game.

5 Ayala: Was part of the defence that had a tough afternoon but was still able to make some important challenges.

5 Flint: Another one of the backline that struggled with the industry and energy of the home attacking line-up.

7 Friend: His first-half solo run deserved better than his wayward shot, was one of the brighter spots of the day.

5 Howson: Was not able to impact too much in the game despite putting in a lot of graft and effort.

6 Clayton: Tried to make a difference against an impressive QPR attack, deserved more success than he got.

6 Saville: His goal was the clear highlight of an awful day, struck well and gave Boro much needed hope.

5 Downing: Was replaced just after the hour mark after delivering some crosses, but with little effect.

5 Hugill: Was left with a difficult task up top, battled away but was unable to offer much up front for Boro.

4 Assombalonga: Was turned by Wells very early on in the contest, which set the scene for the rest of his day.

Subs:

5 Wing (for Howson, 64): Hadn’t trained all week with a hamstring issue, and this seemed to show after a burst of initial energy

5 Tavernier (for Downing, 64): Failed to make too much impact in the amount of time he was on the field

Fletcher (for Saville, 82)

(not used): Konstantopoulos (gk), Fry, Batth, McNair

Man of the Match – NAKHI WELLS – The QPR striker scored his side’s match-winner and was a thorn in the side of the Middlesbrough defence all afternoon
