BRENTFORD (4-2-3-1):
Bentley 5; Dalsgaard 6, Konsa 5, Mepham 5, Odubajo 6 (Henry 86); McEachran 5 (Marcondes 64, 4), Macleod 5 (Dasilva 74); Yennaris 5, Canos 6, JUDGE 7; Maupay 4.
Subs (not used): Daniels (gk), Clarke, Barbet, Oksanen.
MIDDLESBROUGH (4-1-4-1):
8 Randolph: Made three crucial saves, with the pick seeing him turn Dalsgaard’s second-half free-kick around the post
8 Fry: Has made the most of his opportunity at right-back – delivered a superb cross for Tavernier’s headed goal
7 Batth: Continues to justify his presence in the team ahead of Ayala – rock solid as he helped mark the dangerous Maupay out of the game
7 Flint: Will probably feel he should have done better with a headed chance, but was dominant and authoritative at the back once again
7 Friend: Another hugely effective display from the man in the mask – his energy up and down the flank is boundless
8 CLAYTON: Ran the game from the heart of midfield and ensured Brentford’s creative midfielders were never afforded any time on the ball
6 Downing: As neat and tidy as ever as he switched from one side of the pitch to the other – rarely, if ever, gives the ball away
6 Howson: Made a telling break into the box to help set up Hugill’s goal – it would be nice to see him do that a little more often
7 Besic: His ball to help set up Hugill’s opener was picture-perfect and he played a number of well-judged passes behind the Brentford defence
7 Tavernier: Seized his opportunity as he made his first league start for more than a year – got into a brilliant position as he headed home his side’s second
7 Hugill: Proved a real nuisance as he battled away against Brentford’s centre-halves, and claimed his third goal in the space of two games
Subs:
Saville (for Besic, 79)
Wing (for Downing, 87)
Ayala (for Tavernier, 89)
(not used): Konstantopoulos (gk), McNair, Assombalonga, Gestede.
Man Of The Match: ADAM CLAYTON – He might not perform the most glamorous role on the pitch, but he is often Middlesbrough’s most important player as he provides a defensive foundation at the base of midfield.
