Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley says that his team mustn’t drop their standards when they go to Leamington this afternoon in the Vanarama National League North.

Moors have turned their season around dramatically in their last three matches, having collected seven points from their last three games, and they are now up to 12th in the table, just two points below the play off places.

And Ainsley is wary of a repeat of last year’s encounter, when Moors lost 4-0, a result that ended a run of three straight wins at the time.

“It was a crazy game last year at their place when we lost,” said Ainsley.

“We conceded two penalties and missed two at the other end. It’s a tough place to go to, and Leamington always seem to do well at their place. They have a very good home record, so we must be prepared to roll up our sleeves. We have picked up seven points out of the last nine, which is a good return for the last week, but we mustn’t allow our standards to drop after what we’ve achieved.

“They have a lad up front who has scored six times this season, so we must watch out for him.”

Leamington have been one of the surprises of the season so far. After just escaping relegation last season, they are currently sixth in the table having lost just twice in their eight matches.

Defender Rob Atkinson and winger Ryan Hall are both doubtful because of injury this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Moors have agreed to the transfer of David Foley back to his previous club South Shields.

Foley was one of the stars of Shields’ Trophy quad in season 2016-17, and soon after their Vase triumph at Wembley, he signed for Moors.

He scored several top quality goals last season as Moors just missed out on the play offs, but Moors have now accepted an offer from Shields.

Ainsley said; “David has wanted to go back to Shields for a while, and with Kevin Hayes, Shaun Tuton and Adam Boyes coming along, we felt that we could accept Shields’ offer.”
