Northamptonshire need 65 runs to claim victory over Durham in the final session on day two of their Specsavers County Championship Division Two match at Emirates Riverside.
After losing five wickets in the opening session the home side were under pressure immediately, although Steel was dropped on 47 by Brett Hutton at first slip off the bowling of Gleeson. Hutton was again the guilty party to give Steel another life, dropping the opener once again on 49 after Nathan Buck found the outside edge.
Buck did get the breakthrough to end a promising partnership between Paul Collingwood and Steel, bowling the former for 27. Steel finally reached his fifty off 112 deliveries, but he failed to progress further as Sanderson nipped a delivery back between bat and pad. Buck continued his impressive spell by trapping Stuart Poynter lbw for 11.
Durham's innings ended abruptly as Sanderson and Buck wrapped up the tail, bowling the home side out for 133. Sanderson ended the innings as the pick of the bowlers with 4-34.
