SPENNYMOOR Town manager Jason Ainsley says that his team must cut out the “basic errors” when they go to second in the table Boston United today.

Moors have failed to win any of their five league games so far, but they could so easily have won a couple of those if their defence hadn’t sprung unnecessary leaks.

He made his players watch a video in midweek of the goals they have conceded so far, and he said; “We have to stop making mistakes that are costing us goals. We really can’t afford to make basic errors, because they will be punished in this league.

“We went through all ten goals that we have conceded this season. We can pick through the bones of every goal, but basic errors are at the heart of it. Other teams don’t have to try all that hard to score goals against us, they haven’t really opened us up.

“We must get back to the solid foundations that we had at Chester on the opening day of the season when we picked up a goalless draw.”

Moors are hoping to avoid a third straight defeat at York Street, and Ainsley said; “I don’t see why we shouldn’t get a draw or a win if we apply ourselves properly. I don’t think there’s a big difference between the top and the bottom of the table.

“It’s all down to fine margins – we could have won three or four of our matches, but we’ve given some poor goals away that have been a decisive factor.”

Meanwhile, Ainsley will include new signing Shaun Turon in his squad today.

Turon has been signed from Chester, where he wasn’t on contract, and said; “Using my pace and getting in behind defences is one of my main attributes. I can drop in too, but I mainly try to get play on the shoulder of the last man.

“I need to get back playing after being at several clubs in the last few years. I was out for a little bit, so I need to get some minutes on the pitch.”

Turon was with Moors assistant manager Tommy Miller at Halifax, and was good enough to be signed by Barnsley, who were in League One at the time.

But he didn’t establish himself at Oakwell, and played seven games before returning to Halifax Town.

“He will give us a few more options up front,” said Ainsley.

After struggling at the wrong end of the division last season, Boston are second in the table with four wins from their five matches so far, and have won both their home games against Guiseley and Nuneaton.
