MIDDLESBROUGH have confirmed the capture of midfielder Paddy McNair from Sunderland.
McNair has signed a four-year-deal at the Riverside to become Tony Pulis’ first signing of the summer, having pushed to leave Sunderland in the wake of last season’s relegation to League One.
McNair, who has signed for an undisclosed fee which is understood to be around £5m, completed his medical yesterday, and will be part of the Boro squad that leaves for a pre-season training camp in Austria tomorrow afternoon.
The Northern Ireland international started his career in the youth set-up at Manchester United before making a £5.5m move to Sunderland two summers ago.
His time on Wearside was disrupted by a series of niggling injuries, but he scored three goals in his final five appearances last season and was widely regarded as Sunderland’s best player as they dropped out of the Championship.
