JOHN O'SHEA'S proposed move to Reading has been confirmed, bringing to an end seven years as a Sunderland player.
The Royals have confirmed that the Irish defender has signed a 12-month deal at the Madejski Stadium after deciding it was time to move on from Wearside along with new boss Jack Ross.
Reading, who stayed up in the Championship, will officially sign him on July 1 when his Sunderland deal has expired.
O’Shea, 37, follows confirmation former Sunderland defender David Meyler joined the same club earlier today.
Reading manager Paul Clement said: "John has played and won at the very highest level – he has won five Premier League titles, been part of a European Cup-winning side and earned 118 caps for his country!
"He will bring us fantastic levels of experience and proven leadership qualities.
“We looked very carefully at John’s recent playing statistics and he played a total of 40 games for Sunderland last season; he is still incredibly fit and a hugely motivated individual.
"So we look forward to him being a big contributor out on the pitch next season.”
O'Shea has retired from international football but was keen to extend his club career.
