HARTLEPOOL UNITED are on the verge of landing their sixth signing of the summer after agreeing terms with former Leeds United striker Ian Moore.

Moore will conclude the formalities later today but there are not expected to be any late hitches and he will make the move to Victoria Park on a Bosman free.

The 30-year-old was released by Leeds manager Dennis Wise at the end of last season after two years at Elland Road following his move from Burnley in March 2005. He struggled with injuries in West Yorkshire, scoring just two league goals in two years.

Ten years ago he cost Nottingham Forest £1m after becoming a household name in the Football League with Tranmere Rovers.

Now Moore, from Birkenhead, who has also spent time at West Ham and Stockport, has been snapped up by Pools boss Danny Wilson, who has been desperate to add at least one new striker to his ranks this summer.

He recently missed out on capturing the services of Darryl Duffy from Hull City, who has now signed for Swansea City.

Pools have also taken striker Andrew Bagshaw on trial after his release from Aberdeen, and he will travel with them on their pre-season tour of Holland.

Moore will follow Jamie McCunnie, Jan Budtz, Arran Lee-Barrett, Godwin Antwi and Robbie Elliott to the League One club for next season.

After playing his part in Scunthorpe United's rise up the Football League, Steve Foster is looking forward to emulating that success at Darlington.

The 32-year-old skippered Scunthorpe to the League One title last season, just two years after the Iron clinched promotion from League Two.

Foster revealed he turned down the chance to captain Scunthorpe in the Championship next term to pursue a challenge with Darlington.

After learning of Foster's possible availability Quakers boss Dave Penney made his move for the Mansfield-born defender, who was voted Scunthorpe's player of the year last season and was captain of the Doncaster Rovers side that won promotion from the Conference and League Two under Penney.

Foster, who will skipper Quakers next season, said: "I know the gaffer from my time at Doncaster, as well as Ricky (Ravenhill) and Tim (Ryan), who I spoke to about Darlington," said Foster.

"The club is looking to challenge for top spot this year and I just thought it was an exciting time to come to the club. "I had the opportunity to play in the Championship, but having spoken to Dave Penney I just felt it was a good opportunity to come to a club and help them climb the leagues."
