SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has taken part in a training session with the senior England squad.

The 22-year-old, called up late on Sunday night after an injury to Tom Heaton, joined in with Joe Hart and Fraser Forster at Enfield training complex ahead of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier in Slovenia.

Pickford, from Washington, Tyne & Wear, has impressed for the Black Cats in the Premier League and has played five times this season.

He has been handed his chance to impress by Gareth Southgate, who has already worked with him at Under-21s level where he has played nine times under his watch.

The promising goalkeeper, who has looked at home in the top-flight so far, revealed his delight by Tweeting: "Honoured to be called up to the England senior team for the first time! Really excited for the journey ahead, can't wait to get started."
