MIDDLESBROUGH’S Under-23 team suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to Wolves at Telford’s New Bucks Head ground.
Wolves’ Donovan Wilson struck the crossbar shortly before half-time, but went one better in the first minute of the second half as he broke the deadlock. Wilson raced onto a long ball and lobbed Boro goalkeeper Aynsley Pears before tapping home.
Nouha Dicko doubled Wolves’ lead midway through the second half, pouncing on a poor back-pass from Niall McGoldrick before slotting home.
Boro rarely looked like getting back into the game, but they claimed a consolation in stoppage time as Callum Cooke teed up Joao Morelli to score.
Middlesbrough: Pears, Johnson, McGoldrick, McGhee, Kitching, Tinkler, Morelli, Wheatley, Jakupovic (McAloon 89), Pattison (Mondal 63), Cooke.
