England eyes will be sharply focused on Yorkshire today but there will be little concern over the result of their final North Conference match in the Friends Provident Trophy.

The centre of attention for England captain, Michael Vaughan, and coach, Peter Moores, will be Matthew Hoggard who is testing out his fitness with Yorkshire ahead of the fourth Test against the West Indies which starts at Chester-le-Street on Friday.

Hoggard has been out of action since sustaining a groin injury during the first Test at Lord's and, if he suffers no reaction today, he will join up with the England squad for training at Riverside tomorrow and then come back into the Test side at the expense of Durham's Liam Plunkett.

The presence of Hoggard in Yorkshire's side injects some life into a game in which the result is of little significance because neither team can now make it through to the semi-finals of the competition.

But the match affords Yorkshire the opportunity to bring in one or two players on the fringe of the first team and, with the Twenty20 Cup starting next week, there is a big incentive for everyone to do well.

Anthony McGrath takes over the captaincy from Darren Gough who broke a bone in his right hand during the Championship game against Kent at Tunbridge Wells last week.

Wicketkeeper, Gerard Brophy, has now recovered from his hand injury, and he replaces Simon Guy who is captaining the Second XI in their three-day Championship match against Sussex which began at Hove today.

Brophy's superior batting gives him the advantage over Guy and he is almost certain to be a part of the Twenty20 side.

Yorkshire fans will be pleased to see Matthew Wood back in first team action and he may be a candidate for the Twenty20s.
